MY TEACHING
I teach from my Berkhamsted home studio in an informal and relaxed environment and use a lovely Yamaha upright piano as well as my Roland digital piano where necessary. I can also teach at your home if you’d prefer.
MY LESSONS.
I teach jazz, pop & rock piano and my lessons will enable you to play and improvise on jazz standards, understand chord charts and provide better piano accompaniment.
We will learn practical theory that will enable you to find your own playing style and to start sounding good in no time. You can only get so far playing alone with teach-yourself jazz or rock piano books, working alongside a teacher will give you that essential practical experience. I also teach formal classical piano.
ABOUT ME
I am a professional songwriter, piano player, vocalist, teacher and founder of KZR Music (www.kzrmusic.co.uk). I’ve played the piano bars and hotels of central London, worked as a session player and toured with Universal Music. I currently play keyboards for Irish singer/songwriter Chris Singleton (IRL/Universal) and also lead my own band performing my original jazz and blues flavored popular music. I’ve played some of the finest venues including the Paradiso in Amsterdam, Borderline & Troubadour in London, The Vredenburg Concert Hall in Utrecht (supporting Lucie Silvas) and the prestigious Stables in Milton Keynes.
My award winning songs have been recorded by both pop and jazz singers and can be heard regularly in the jazz and rock clubs in London.

My formal classical lessons follow the Michael Aaron or Pam Wedgwood course texts whilst my jazz/rock lessons are more flexible and based around the needs of the individual student.

- Three note voicing spread over 2 hands
- Voice leading
- II-V-I
- Extended turnarounds
- Cycle of fourths/fifths
- Adding to voicings

How much is a lesson? £30 per hour or £27.50 per hour if you pay for 4 lessons in advance (ie. 4 lessons for £110, dates and frequency up to you). Home visits are available from £35 per hour.
Can I pay as I go? Yes, certainly though it works out cheaper if you pay in advance.
What are your teaching times? Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and early evenings and all day Saturday. The early evening and Saturday morning slots tend to get booked up quickly.
Do you teach total beginners? Yes
Do you teach Classical piano ? Yes I teach formal classical piano up to grade 5.
What kind of students do you teach ? My students range from aged 7 to 72 years of age.
Are you CRB checked ? Yes, I am Enhanced CRB cleared.
