| Notes: |
I have recently graduated with a first class Bachelor of Music (BMus) degree from the University of Leeds, where I majored in piano performance. I have also studied at the conservatoire in Cologne, Germany. In 2002 I was awarded the DipABRSM just one year after I had passed my grade 8 with distinction. I have an extensive repertoire and I am very open minded when it comes to selecting repertoire to perform.
I began teaching the piano before I went to university when I was seventeen, and enjoyed charting the progress of my pupils. This gave me the incentive to make some extra money whilst at university teaching fellow music students. In my last year at university I had some twenty students, all of whom were music students. Many were performing at an advanced level, including many of diploma standard. My enthusiasm for teaching has continued into my professional life. Currently I teach over forty students from across the age-range. Since I started teaching at King Henry VIII School, Coventry, I feel that I have made an immediate impact and all the students that I have entered for exams have achieved at least a merit mark.
I am a very experienced and enthusiastic teacher. I can teach absolute beginners up to very advanced students. I have a 100% pass rate with all of my past students in exams ranging from grade one to advanced performance diplomas.
Below is a list of a few of my achievements so far as a pianist:
Attended Dartington Summer School participating in masterclasses with Stephen Kovacevich and Douglas Finch.
Experienced orchestral pianist performing works such as Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs and Nyman’s Where the Bees Dance.
Performed many concerts in role of soloist and accompanist in Cologne, including a schools project introducing primary school children to classical music. This culminated in a sell-out concert in the Conservatory’s main concert hall.
Invited to perform in the BBC event ‘Pianos Everywhere’ performing a solo recital in Leeds on an outdoor stage in Millennium Square as ‘warm-up artist’ for renowned pianist Benjamin Frith.
Founding member of a touring rock/funk band recording CDs and touring the country supporting signed bands such as Liberty X!! (that’s not a reflection on the music)
Performed Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto in Leeds Town Hall with Leeds University Symphony Orchestra in front of an audience of over 1,200.
I was invited to perform Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto with the City of Coventry Youth Orchestra.
Performed selections from Carnival of the Animals with The Orchestra of the Swan in Birmingham Town Hall.
Competent Jazz pianist with experience of solo, ensemble and big band work performing a wide range of repertoire. |
