I offer drum tuition for players of all levels - complete beginners looking to get an idea of what it’s like to play the drums, intermediate players who have played for a while and are now looking to broaden their drum-kit vocabulary, and established drummers wanting to get to grips with the more advanced concepts as used by the top players of today., , My approach is to teach technique, exercises, theory and reading from a variety of publications, and then to learn songs from compilation CDs and transcriptions which I provide with the aim of putting the exercises learnt into a musical context, and having fun!, , BEGINNERS' TUITION, , Beginners would work through the first two sections of the ‘Complete Learn to Play Drums Manual’ book (by Craig Lauritsen), and would learn the following songs – , , Kashmir (excerpt) (Led Zeppelin) , We Will Rock You (Queen) , I Am the Highway (Audioslave), Another One Bites the Dust (Queen) , Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Green Day), How You Remind Me (Nickelback), Back in Black (ACDC), Every Breath You Take (The Police), Wanted Dead or Alive (Bon Jovi) , Beat It (Michael Jackson), Enter Sandman (Metallica), D’Yer Mak’er (Led Zeppelin), , INTERMEDIATE LEVEL TUITION, , Intermediate level students would continue with the same book, working through Section 3 (16th notes) and Section 5 (triplets). We would also learn techniques such as heel-up bass drum technique and the Moeller method. To that end, I offer advanced tuition concentrating on double bass drumming and odd time signatures. We would work from the ‘Progressive Double Bass Drumming’ book by Bob Burgett, and sections from books by Pete Riley, Rod Morgenstein and Gary Chaffee on odd time signatures. We would also look at more complex music – , , Songs with double bass drum patterns - , , Overkill (Motorhead), Dead Skin Mask (Slayer) , Rammlied (Rammstein), Eye of the Beholder (Metallica) , Pull Me Under (excerpt) (Dream Theater), Domination (Pantera), Becoming (Pantera), Slaughtered (Pantera), Use My Third Arm (Pantera), Hot For Teacher (Van Halen), One (Metallica), Redneck (Lamb of God), Bat Country (Avenged Sevenfold), , Songs in odd time signatures - , , Take Five (Dave Brubeck), Vicarious (Tool) , Seven Days (Sting), Money (Pink Floyd) , Them Bones (Alice in Chains), Surrounded (Dream Theater), Sound of Muzak (Porcupine Tree), Start of Something Beautiful (Porcupine Tree), YYZ (Rush), Tom Sawyer (Rush), Jacob’s Ladder (Rush), Erotomania (Dream Theater), Dance of Eternity (Dream Theater), , TUITION COSTS - I offer a free initial ‘consultation’ to meet and chat about your drumming, and to listen to each other play. I have found 45 minutes to be the right length for a one-to-one lesson, and I charge £70 for 4 lessons, paid by cheque on the first of each four. Please be aware that any 2 lessons missed consecutively (with the exceptions of Christmas and Easter) will be charged as one paid lesson. I offer lessons at 2pm, 4.15, 5.30 and 6.45, Monday–Friday, in the comfort of your own home. |
