Students may be working through the ABRSM exam process, or they may simply be learning for the enjoyment of it. Either way, I design the lessons to be both fun and to create a sense of achievement., , As songs are learned, they can be recorded to build up a portfolio of accomplishments on CD/MP3. , , If you are interested or would like to ask any questions please give me a call on 07875416450 or email me at info@kiraemslie.com

Piano, Keyboard and Accordion PIANO and KEYBOARD, , I believe a strong foundation of classical music is important to achieve a good technique for playing the piano and am myself classically trained. However, I also believe that variety is important and would teach rock, pop and lounge piano music as well as blues, boogie woogie and jazz. Also, if a pupil brings a piece they want to learn to play they will be free to do so., , I am also able to teach both traditional music theory and modern jazz theory. Having done Advanced Higher music I could give extra help to any pupils who are studying music at school., , The act of composing music is both satisfying and instructive for those wishing to learn an instrument. If a pupil wishes to do so I will be eager to help them write their own music. I am adept with the music writing program 'Sibelius' and can give tutorials on its use., , I will put pupils through ABRSM grades up to grade 8 if the pupil desires to. I believe examinations can be a good incentive to practise but I do not believe in pushing pupils constantly onto the next grade unless it is their wish as the pressure can make learning less enjoyable., , ACCORDION, , Traditional music will be taught. This could include Scottish and Irish jigs, reels, strathspeys and waltzes; French and Italian Musettes and polkas; Spanish Flamenco music; Argentine Tango; Gypsy music and even some Balkan music to name but a fraction of what traditional music has to offer! Virtuoso accordion music (like that of the famous accordionist Pietro Frosini) and light classical (like Vittorio Monti's 'Czardas')will also be taught., , I have often felt that some areas of music have been neglected by accordionists. To make up for this I have arranged and play some classical repetoire (accordion can be adapted to organ music fantastically!) and jazz and will teach this if the pupil desires., , BOTH, , I will teach sight reading and improvisation. I have found that when these skills are learnt that the ability to look at a sheet of music and be able to play it right then or to make up your own music on the spot are the among the greatest joys to be had from playing a musical instrument.
