| Notes: |
I am offering keyboard/piano tuition at beginner-intermediate level, for adults and children aged 8 and over. In addition to working on specific pieces, students can work on music notation reading, sight-reading, rhythmic and ear-training and harmony. I have taught keyboard privately for the last 20 years, as well as running adult education classes at Musicworks in South London and Goldsmiths’ College, London.
I am also offering composition help and advice suitable for students taking music GCSE and A-level, or for anyone interested in developing their composition work. Lessons will focus on a variety of compositional methods, investigating techniques for taking simple ideas (tunes, rhythms etc) and developing them into extended pieces. These lessons can embrace a variety of genres, ranging from the simple popular song to more complex instrumental pieces. The emphasis throughout will be ‘inspirational,’ encouraging students to value and develop their own ideas, which is often a difficulty for budding young composers.
Revisionn help also offered for music history and analysis papers (e.g. Edexcel GCE Music Anthology)
I have worked extensively in primary and secondary schools, running various composition-based projects for the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), The London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields etc. In the main, these projects involved creating music with primary and secondary classes, who then performed their compositions (with symphony orchestra) at the Royal Festival Hall. |
