Notes:

I am a practical musician with both a keen interest and qualifications in music theory, and a passion to help others deepen their musical knowledge - sparked by coaching my own children through their music theory examinations!

I was the inaugural Music Sizar at Churchill College, Cambridge, and have been Director of Music at St Nicolas Church Cranleigh since 1992, where I play the organ for most services, direct the choir and lead a music group.

I have extensive experience as a trainer and coach over more than 25 years as a business manager and consultant, and I have been performing, directing, arranging and composing music for over 35 years, with performing experience as a singer and oboist, violinist and keyboard player. This means I can bring a wide-ranging practical approach to all aspects of music theory, to help students learn music theory more effectively through seeing how it is directly relevant to artistic performance. I have children both in their twenties and still at primary school, and have coached them effectively at various ages and through a number of subjects including music theory.

Music theory isn`t dry and abstract, but a vital complement to learning to play, sing and appreciate music. A sound understanding of music theory enables students to play and interpret music accurately, but also helps them to understand what is going on behind the notes to give the music its effect on the listener.

I offer engaging and effective tuition for both ABRSM and Trinity examinations for all Grades 1-8. If you want not only to pass your exams but also to deepen your appreciation of music and have fun, then get in touch!

I am also pleased to offer sensitive and supportive piano accompaniment for ABRSM and Trinity examinations at all levels.
