Mr Neil "Macca" McMinn

Qualifications:
Ba hons Popular music and Recording

Rock School Grade 8 Distinction
Instruments: Drum Kit
Genre/Style(s): I am a Manchester based teacher looking to build up my student roster after a period of time away touring. My background is primarily a rock background, but as a member of an International touring band that fuses many Rock, Dance and Reggae influences my experience is wide and varied, and most importantly I have learned my knowledge from playing music professionally on big (and small) stages. I can share with you the knowledge gleaned from my own tutors and the world class international artist I have toured with.

I gained my degree locally at Salford University so i have a solid academic background, and I have in the past ran my own Latin and Jazz bands so i can cover whatever areas you wish to, or I can set a well rounded path to learning if you have any uncertainty about where you want to take your playing.

I have over 8 years of teaching experience, with lessons usually being on a 1 to 1 basis. I have done group work and i have experience in peripatetic teaching in Schools. I am familiar with the current grade examinations (Rock School, Guildhall etc) and I have helped many fellow performers whilst out on tour with things they needed help with (as well as stealing a few tips from them too!!!)

Firstly I will establish your aims and goals, and i will set out a course of practice material tailored to them. I try wherever possible to use your own personal music collection as a source of practice material and as a framework for practicing the exercises i set. This makes the material relevant for you, and helps inspire you. I am comfortable with students who wish to extend their music theory, and those who have no theory and relate to music in their own way
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

Notes:

Receive fun tuition and advice from an experienced musician currently working in the music industry.
