Notes: James Robertson is the founder of Upbeat Drum School which he formed in 2001 with the help of Helen Harper (Tranent Community Development Officer), the Scottish Arts Council (Lottery Awards for All Scheme), the Redhouse Home Trust and the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) all of which granted funds.

The Drum School is a non-profit music initiative.

James is the tutor along with Arlene Valente. He has been teaching drums at Upbeat for 7 years and has previously played for the Edinburgh Acting School and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Over the past 7 years he has taught numerous students. Many of them have went on to pass their Rockschool drum exams or formed their own bands and are playing in the county and beyond.

In 2003 James co-ordinated a 6 month music workshop project at the Drum School, not only for drummers but also for other musicians, inviting various bands - most notably Fish (ex-Marillion singer) who also performed a concert.
