Qualifications:	Tomás Jiménez Tomás has had no formal conservatoire tuition as this is not available in Spain for flamenco guitar. Instead Tomás learned to play flamenco guitar from his father whose teaching instilled in Tomás a respect for flamenco together with the understanding that his playing should communicate the true meaning of each piece without using superfluous effects. His father explained to him: “No florees el toque porque el flamenco ya comunica todas las emociones y todos los sentimientos humanos sin echarle ni quitarle nada” “Don’t make the playing flowery because flamenco by itself communicates every emotion and every human sentiment and you don’t have to add to or take anything away from it”. Tomás Jiménez has never received formal teaching from Paco Peña but Paco has on several occasions received Tomás at his home and has kindly made observations and recommendations. On one occasion on hearing Tomás play some of his compositions he corrected certain chords that Tomás had not been able to fully understand from Paco’s recordings. At the same time Paco recommended that Tomás should freely change the original compositions, modifying melodies or adding melodies of his own in such a way that the composition, while still being an original concept by Paco, would via this process become a faithful interpretation by Tomás.
