Biography

Federico Girlando was Born in Gibellina, Sicily on 17th November 1978 and was raised in Milan, North Italy before returning to his Birth Place Sicily for his teenage life. He always had a great interest in Music and Performance. He started his musical career at a tender age of 6 years old where he began Vocal Training Techniques and Solfeggio in all Keys. He performed in Concerts with “Santa Cecilia” of Lecco in Milan and Rome. In 1992 Federico began to study Piano with E. Sollima analyzing and interpreting the work of W.A.Mozart. He also followed an external Piano program. In 1999 Federico wanted a new Musical Challenge, He began to study drums. Since Federico started his Drumming career he has had many achievements studying with professional artists with credits such as Giuseppe Urso (Brass Group of Palermo), Vittorio Villa, Roberto Gatto, Fabrizio Sferra(Doctor 3) and Pat Bautz (Three Dog Night). In 2001 recorded the album ‘Direzione’ with the band ‘Viadimezzo’, of which he toured with, for few years, under the signature of a contract with the label ‘Phonola’ (Alessandria). In 2004 Federico took his career a step further and began work as a Drummer for Costa Cruise Lines in a Successful Band and Musical Orchestra (Night Out Band). He worked in the United States with Big Bands and International Artists: Van Presley (Ex Platters), Victoria Horne, John Ciotta (Tribute to Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin), Al Vega Trio and Errol Dante. After leaving the Band and Cruise ships Federico appeared with many varied artists, collaborating with many Jazz Musicians: Giuseppe Vasapolli (Orchestra Arranger of Massimo Theatre of Palermo), Carmelo Salemi (Trumpet), Domenico Cacciatore, Luciano Favara , Osvaldo Lo Iacono (Guitar), Giovanni Buzzurro (Bass and Double Bass), Giacomo Buffa (Bass and Double Bass), Sade Mangiaracina (Piano), Alberto Aguzza (Trumpet) and Angelo Di Marco (Piano), to mention a few. Federico has an Encyclopedic Knowledge of Music and can speak confidently about most Genres. Currently Federico is living in England. Federico graduated with a 'Master Performance Degree' at Drumtech Music School (London) and with a 'Pro-Music Licentiate' at Trinity College of Music (London).
