Biography
Laura Porter graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2005 as a clarinet specialist and now works as a freelance musician and teacher in the South West.
Laura's playing has taken her on many tours of Europe and as far as Hong Kong. Closer to home, she has performed at some of the country's top class venues such as St. David's Hall, Cardiff Millennium Stadium, the Bristol Hippodrome, Sherman Cymru, Royal Festival Hall and Glyndebourne. Performances include the world premiere of John Tavener's "Ekstasis", a number of Reed chairs for musical theatre productions, engagements by local orchestras and bands as well as brand new youth operas "Airheads" (McCrae/Buckler) and "Zoë" (Lunn/Plaice) - the latter of which was later adapted by Channel 4 television.
Laura runs an extremely busy private teaching practice for both adults and children. She also has experience working for local authority music services and engagements with both county and independent schools. Laura has a huge enthusiasm for directing student ensembles and currently directs the "Reed Maids" Clarinet and Saxophone Ensemble for The Red Maids' School in Bristol.
Instrumental lessons can either be just for fun or focussed on passing graded exams. Exam preparation usually follows the syllabus of the ABRSM. Laura holds the ABRSM Dip.Clarinet Teaching qualification in addition to her BMus Honours degree from RWCMD.
Laura Porter is the founder of the Livas Clarinet Quartet with whom she currently plays bass clarinet. Laura works as a clarinettist, bass clarinettist, alto and baritone sax player and is a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
