Biography
Luke began learning the Cornet at the age of eight, but later switched to the Trumpet as he favoured its sound. He learnt quickly and gave his first public performance of F.C.Bird's arrangement of 'Moonlight and Roses' at his school's summer concert.
He began his journey through the ABRSM Grade Exam route, and attained his Grade 5 Trumpet with Distinction before leaving Primary School, and furthered his interest by joining Bands and began working his way up the ranks.
During his senior school years he was a member of his local Student Concert Band which had the opportunity to perform at the Royal Festival Hall,London. He also enjoyed six years of residential Music courses that took place twice yearly during school holidays. In 1992 he was presented with his first 'tip' for his success at pitching high D's above top C during a summer concert that ended that years residential course, and also was nominated to receive his school's 'Music shield' award.
During that same year Luke passed his ABRSM Grade 8 Trumpet, and he continued to hold 1st Trumpet positions with bands and Orchestras. His appearance at his County Music Festival of 1995 saw him be presented with an 'Outstanding Performance' for his interpretation of Neruda's Trumpet Concerto in Eb. That same year upon leaving sixth form he started preparing for a professional career as a Musician in the armed forces, and in the summer of 1996 joined the Corps of Army Music.
Although deciding that life as a military musician was not for him, he returned to civilian life to later audition and join his local City Concert Band and remained with them until 1999.
Having had some years out of the musical circle, his interest stayed with him. In more recent years Luke has chosen quite different careers paths, including Bus and Coach driving, Franchised ADI(car), and he now, since 2010, chooses to teach privately along side his work as a PCV Driver, and has built up a successful list of satisfied students.
