I signed up for tuition from Luke in August 2010. As a mature student and complete beginner (both in Trumpet and Music in general), I fully depended on his tuition, and would describe him as a thorough, organised and knowledgeable tutor, who conveys a very precise balance of demand for achievement along with positive encouragement. I was able to produce my first two notes at the end of my first session, and feel that I have progressed steadily since.
Luke communicates well, and always finds a way to explain and demonstrate a new concept. His lessons always has a clear objective, which I continue to achieve. I am far from a 'natural-born Musician' and certainly not a quick learner, but remain inspired as a result of his playing ability.
I have found Luke to show great patience with my shortfalls and invariably supportive - he is brilliant at providing me with positive feedback, and I feel that his approach to teaching has been essential for my development of self-confidence in playing the Trumpet.
Just over one year on, I am pleased with my practical ability and progressive understanding of musical notation. I have a repertoire of over a dozen tunes - classical, jazz and folk. Few things give me more pleasure than playing these tunes, and learning new ones on a regular basis. In the specific area of musical notation, again he is an excellent tutor, both clear and assertive in conveying his knowledge of technique.
Thanks to Luke's lessons, I have been very successful with my exams so far, and look forward to taking my next one soon.
Luke is a polite and friendly person, extremely professional in every possible aspect, and I enjoy every one of my lessons. For these reasons, I fully recommend him without hesitation, in my view, as an outstanding Trumpet/Cornet and Music tutor.

I started playing the Trumpet/Cornet from the age of eleven and kept doing so until my late 20's, when the pressures of raising a young family and work commitments resulted in me giving it up. Now I have more time on my hands I took it up again, but with an absence of some 30 years I was more than a little rusty. Fortunately for me, I found Luke, and over time he has rebuilt my confidence and skill to a level that enables me to play in my local brass band. My longer term ambition is to achieve a grade 8 standard, and I believe if anybody can help me achieve this, Luke can.

I came to learning the Cornet as an adult and total beginner, and Luke has been my teacher for the past eighteen months. Luke's teaching has enabled me to master the technical difficulties which I experienced at first. This, along with his support and encouragement, enabled me to pass the ABRSM Grade 2 with Merit, earlier this year. Ian Hamilton, Norwich. |
