Biography

I have been teaching for the past 4 years, both privately from home and at a secondary and two feeder primary schools in East Leeds.

As well as teaching, I also play viola in a professional string quartet (www.aurorastrings.org.uk) which was established whilst studying for my music degree at Newcastle University 14 years ago and has developed ever since.

As well as performing in a string quartet, I also record for artists such as Kathryn Williams, Smoove and Turrell, Beccy Owen and Detroit Social Club. I enjoy the improvisation/creative aspect of making music when recording and I incorporate this into my teaching methods.

When teaching I believe it's important to start with the development of the student's aural skills, using a range of different techniques to suit the student's age and level. I would then gradually introduce techniques relating to the instrument and build on these when learning pieces and scales. I also believe it's important to teach each individual according to their needs and desires and if they choose to perform, provide a platform to enable them to do so.
