Helen attended the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School and continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and the University of Sussex. Her teachers have included Heather Slade-Lipkin, Darla Crispin and Peter Feuchtwanger.
Helen has a wealth of professional performing experience and a particular interest in 20th/21st century American piano music. Her recent engagements have included a visiting post as musician in residence at St Paul's Cathedral and recitals at Steinway Hall and the Royal Academy of Music.
Helen runs a private teaching practice in central Brighton where her students receive qualified and enthusiastic piano tuition. Good technical grounding, attention to stylistic issues, development of expression, historical and cultural awareness and general musicianship are all integral to her well-rounded and thoughtful approach.
Lessons are tailored to the individual student's needs, be it working towards ABRSM Grade exams (she has a 100% exam pass rate) or playing contemporary or popular pieces for pleasure.
Enthusiastic pupils of all ages from Grade 3 to advanced are very welcome.
Helen Burford is a member of the European Piano Teachers Association (UK)- Promoting excellence in piano teaching and performance in the UK- and a member of WPTA (World Piano Teachers' Association).
Helen also offers one-off technical assessments, mock exams, pre-exam/recital assessments and advisory consultations regarding technique, repertoire or issues concerning the prevention of tension in performance. |
