Biography

I have had a love of music from an early age and have played the violin from being three years old. I studied music at the University of Sheffield and graduated with a BMus (Hons) in 2006. My professional experience since then includes running music workshops and choirs for adults with special needs as well as private violin lessons.
I have always enjoyed playing music with others and as a teenager played in Leeds Youth Orchestra and Yorkshire Youth Orchestra and as a student I played in the University Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra as well as many smaller ensembles. Since leaving University I played in Leeds Symphonia until having my first child. I have also enjoyed both singing in and leading choirs for many years.


I have been teaching the violin since my teens and over time have developed my approach to teaching. Although most of my experience has been with children I am also very happy to teach adult beginners and intermediates. My experience in providing music workshops to adults with learning difficulties and mental health problems has contributed to being able to teach music in imaginative and relatable ways.
I have also taken some courses in Kodaly and find the influences of this in teaching general musicianship as well as the violin to be a very effective and musical approach.


Lessons are based around an individuals preferences and ability. I am able to work towards and enter students into exams but am equally happy for students to learn just for enjoyment and look at different genres of music
Besides teaching violin technique and repertoire I am eager to also incorporate general musicianship skills such as theory and aural into the lessons in fun and imaginative ways and would always wish to pass on a love and knowledge of music to all my students.
