Sean was born in 1985 and received his early musical training as a chorister of St. Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Edinburgh, under the direction of Vincent Wallace. This was a position he held for 10 years, latterly as cantor. Throughout his schooling he studied clarinet with John Lamb, piano with Laraine Freeman and Mark Owen, and voice with Roderick Bryce. <br />

As a member of the St. Andrew Camerata, he regularly partakes in live BBC radio and television broadcasts, both as a soloist and member of the choir. Sean was also a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland in 2002 and continues to work with many of Edinburgh’s leading musical ensembles, including The Scottish Chamber Choir, Edinburgh Symphony Baroque and the Squair Mile Consort of Viols.<br />

Sean read music at Napier University, where he studied voice with Andrew Doig, and graduated in July 2007 with first class honours, winning the Harold Gray award for singing. During his time at Napier he participated in masterclasses and workshops with Linda Ormiston and Bob Chilcott, and was involved in the premiere of a set of newly-discovered Beethoven settings of Scottish folk songs. Sean spent a term in Washington State in 2006, where he studied voice, choral music and conducting with reputed Pacific Northwest bass-baritone Vijay Singh, Dr. Gary Weidenaar and Larry Gookin. He also premiered work by eminent pianist and composer John Pickett.<br />

Previous solo engagements include recitals of songs by Quilter, Brahms and Wolf at the Edinburgh Society of Musicians, Purcell’s O, Sing Unto the Lord (in Germany with the choir of St. Andrew’s and St. George’s), Schubert’s Mass in G, Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, various Bach Cantatas with the choir of St. Andrew’s and St. George’s, as well as the premiere of works by contemporary composers Kenneth Dempster and Alexander Vella Gregory. In 2006 Sean worked with the Edinburgh Quartet to perform a new work for baritone and string quartet by Ewan Santer.
