Biography
I have been a professional musician for 25 years and more, in many guises. I have played with orchestras, string ensembles, viol consorts, Baroque groups, folk groups, ceilidh bands, Americana bands, singer/songwriter duos, bluegrass bands and rock bands.
I have now been teaching music for three years, having been invited to teach double bass at Sore Fingers Summer Schools (www.sorefingers.co.uk) in 2008, had a wonderful time teaching there, and realising how good it would be to have a job where I passed on some of the music I have learnt over the years.
After my first year of private teaching I was invited to become the strings teacher at Linton Village College, where I also run a string ensemble.
Three of my students have now passed grade exams (grade 7 viola, grade 5 violin and grade 4 viola).
I am also coaching students on music theory and aural skills, and some of my violin/fiddle students elect to learn folk music and bluegrass techniques.
My youngest student is 6 years old, and I have several retirees on my books also.
In addition to violin, viola and double bass, one of the most popular instruments that I teach is ukulele. For this I devise all my own arrangements of a wide variety of songs, from the swing era of the 1930s to current hits.
