Biography

My first instrument was violin when I was around 7 and I quickly moved on to the descant recorder. Also at this time I began piano lessons with the local organist. After sitting a couple of grades with him he passed me on to piano lessons with an accomplished recorder player and it was then that I was introduced to the treble recorder.

I won many local music competitions and performed regularly. When I was about 14 I began to learn Clarinet.

When I moved to Edinburgh I played clarinet with the New Edinburgh Orchestra and first treble with the recorder society.

I began teaching when my first son was little and have been loving it ever since. With my first round of exam entries my pupils all had great success with one receiving a distinction at grade 4.

All pupils are so different and I tailor each lesson to the individuals talents, ambitions and needs. While realising that exams are important in our society, in conjunction with the parents we work out what makes the pupil tick and find a balance.

I currently teach 4 adults and 8 children of varying ages and abilities.
