Biography

Sophie has over 30 years experience performing and teaching .She has been an active chamber musician ; Violist in the Orford String Quartet, Principal Viola in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and a frequent performer with Ensemble Modern of Germany, The English Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She has participated in numerous CD recordings and worked in some of the principal recording studios in London and the UK. She has taught viola and chamber music at college level, at the University of Toronto and Birmingham Conservatory and at school level.She teaches violin and viola at all levels and beginners piano and music theory.Sophie has a special interest in ensemble playing and chamber music coaching, and is equally enthusiastic working with adult amateurs as with young players.
