Biography

My interest in teaching Theory Of Music came when my own clarinet teacher asked me to teach some of his pupils.

Some 20 years later, I am still passing on my knowledge in music theory, particularly for those pupils who are taking it because they have to for ABRSM practical grade progression.



I studied GCSE music plus Grade 8 Clarinet, Grade 3 Flute, Grade 3 Cornet and Grade 5 Music Theory.



I have been able to pride myself in a 100% pass rate for pupils sitting Theory Exams, through a combined effort of me passing on 'tools' to help pupils understand the logical side of music theory and their hard work in ploughing through lots of exercises and past papers!



I tailor additional exercises where pupils need further support.



I can offer one to one lessons, group lessons and also intensive tuition for the very dedicated student who needs tat Theory exam under their belt.



I can also mark practice test papers and make suitable comments for a small fee - offered to non pupils. As part of my usual fee, existing pupils pay nothing else for this service.



My philosophy is to have fun learning theory and along the way, often without realising, pupils' practical standards improve as they understand what they are reading on the stave and how music is brought together. It can also help with scales in the practical exams!
