Biography
Claire Groom graduated with distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2005. She studied with Barbara Robotham. <br />
<br />
Prizes awarded include the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss, Bruce Millar/Gulliver Prize, Dame Eva Turner Award for dramatic soprano's, Amanda Roocroft Award, Lucy Pierce Award, John Cameron Prize for Lieder, Robin Kay Memorial Prize and the Diva Opera Young Artist Award. <br />

In 2005 Claire was awarded a BBC bursary worth £37,500 to fund her training and promotion. <br />
<br />
In 2006 Claire performed alongside Jose Carreras as Rosalinda in the party scene from Die Fledermaus. Her Royal Albert Hall debut in Handel's Messiah (Sir David Willcocks) was closely followed by Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn's Creation (Brian Kay) and also the Messiah in the Forbidden City Concert Hall, Beijing. <br />
<br />
Working with modern composers she has sung UK premiers for the BBC Proms/Radio 3 and at venues such as the Bridgewater Hall, V&A Museum and The Wigmore Hall<br />
<br />
On the operatic stage, roles have included Magda (La Rondine, RNCM), Karen (A Better Place, RNCM), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni, RNCM/Diva Opera), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus, Clonter Opera), Fiorilla and Silvia (Il Turco In Italia/Ascanio in Alba, Buxton Festival), Adina and Lauretta (L’Elisir D’Amore/Gianni Schicchi, Europe tour, Diva Opera) and Violetta (La Traviata, Mananan International Opera Festival). In 2009 she toured Asia and the UAE with European Chamber Opera singing Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte).<br />
<br />
This year she will perform the principle soprano role of Leila in Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers on an extensive tour of the UK theatres. <br />
<br />
She is also a very successful, sought after singing teacher and coach, teaching from her home in Clifton, Bristol.<br />
