Biography
Alistair currently teaches A-level, GCSE, music theory, violin and piano, and manages the Ampleforth Singers and the New Music Ensemble at Ampleforth College.
After graduating from York University with first class honours, Alistair received a scholarship from the faculty of Arts and Humanities at Durham University, where he completed a Masters degree with distinction in music and theology at St. John’s College. While at Durham, he was involved in The International Network for Music Theology and his research has been published in Contemporary Music Review.
Alistair also enjoys exploring the relationship between music and theology as a composer, violinist and conductor. Alistair has had various compositions performed at Salisbury and Exeter Cathedrals, as well as in Durham, York, and the Byre Theatre in St. Andrews. He has led and conducted various orchestras and choirs performing in concerts and operas in Durham Cathedral, York Minster, Newcastle Cathedral, and the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall at York University.
Alistair is an active member of York Evangelical Church and currently performs with the Ampleforth Chamber Orchestra and Bellissimé, a chamber group that specialises in performing music at country-houses across Yorkshire.
