Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I am an experienced opera singer, voice teacher, pianist/accompanist and offer professional training for all ability levels in a fun, safe, non-pressured environment.

Students are given a safe and friendly environment to feel comfortable/at ease in to try something new or different Ė without judgement - and a positive and constructive developmental approach to their learning.

Singing lessons are student-centred and include one-to-one or group instruction on vocal technique: range; focus; resonance; support; breathing through exercises and repertoire that is specific to the individual.

My voice work is based on a physiological awareness, close body observation and listening. This baseline approach gives me information to understand how your mind and body respond to vocal stimuli and how best to individualise and direct your learning experience for the lesson, term or perhaps even year. Students become self-reflective who are able to work independently at home with vocal assurance.

Building upon technical work that encourages a free and forward voice production, I use dramatic process (e.g. Stanislavksi/Chekhov acting method and creative visualisation) to develop a personalised, emotional response to musical interpretation - characterisation within an opera/musical or portraying an emotion . Through this I have found that students have a more natural stage presence and confidence and a realism in their artistic ownership of a song or character.

Whether you are a rock, pop, jazz, folk, musical theatre, opera singer or donít really know let me help you to establish a reliable and safe voice that fulfils your expressive need.

I use a similar pedagogical approach to the teaching of piano that is physiologically based. This helps the student to better understand how much and what parts of the muscular-skeletal system is used in playing - not just fingers that push down. In piano lessons we will establish; versatility of the fingers, build strength in the muscles of the fingers/hands and learn to release the natural weight of the whole arm (shoulder to fingertip). We then are able to convey our emotional response to the music without any physical blockage.

All lessons include musicianship training and music theory.
