Notes:

My name is Massimo (Max). I completed my piano studies at Istituto Musicale Gaetano Donizetti, Bergamo (Italy) under the guidance of Anita Porrini, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli's favourite pupil. Thereafter, I moved to the UK in order to study historical keyboard instruments (with John Henry and Colin Tilney), accompaniment and viola da gamba (with Alison Crum and Sarah Cunningham) at Trinity College of Music. I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in performance (BMus London) and subsequently obtained a Master Degree (MMus London) with Distinction in historical musicology and performance at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (University of London). This led to an ongoing collaboration with the Centre for Music Theory and Literature at Indiana University (US) where several my editions of music theory manuscripts have been published.

As a teacher, after completing my PGCE at Sussex University and obtaining my Qualified Teacher Status, I worked as a classroom teacher in Brighton schools (GCSE and A levels) as an accompanist‚ on both the piano and the harpsichord‚ and as a piano teacher. For the last three years I was a leading piano tutor at Susanna Cassam Music Tuition, Brighton. I specialise in baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary music on both piano, fortepiano and harpsichord and in all aspects of music theory and composition.

As a performer, I have appeared both in solo recitals (Italian Cultural Institute in London, Chapel Royal and Unitarian Church in Brighton) as a soloist with orchestras (Regent Hall, Oxford Street, London) as an accompanist to both singers and instrumentalists (St James’s Piccadilly, London) and as a continuo player and conductor (Cochrane Theatre, London). I will be performing a concert in the forthcoming Wymondham Music Festival.
I have extensive experience of teaching pupils of all ages, from children to adults. Many of my students obtained excellent ABRSM exam results and auditioned successfully for university and music college places. My experience as a school classroom teacher trained me to provide individual learning experiences that take into account the needs of each pupil. My experience of historical performance practices provides unique insights into the repertoire and allows me to help the pupil to develop musicianship tools that are both stylistically informed and individually expressive.
