My main aim is to make my classes as enjoyable and interactive as possible. I adapt my teaching to the individual needs (interests, inclinations, learning objectives and age) of every individual student, try to foster their creative engagement with the instrument and use a lot of playful exercises and play-alongs to convey new material.

Nevertheless, I also insist on a certain detail to attention when it comes to technique (and a tiny bit of theory) - mastery of these fundamentals renders playing a lot more enjoyable (and effortless) in the long-term.

Beyond learning songs and exploring the instrument, I usually try to incorporate/cover the five following areas in my teaching (but don't be put off by these somewhat 'technical' descriptions. They sound drier then they are in actual practice - most of the time you will hardly notice that we're 'working' on something specific)

- Groove/Time: Probably the most fundamental aspect of drumming - at any level. We will work on continuity (no unintended speeding up/slowing down), precision, subdivisions, key signatures and playing with a click.
- Interdependence/Sound: We will use a variety of exercises to improve your coordination between your four different limbs and work on controlling the 'touch' of every single one of them in order to achieve a balanced sound.
- Styles/Vocabulary: We will look at a variety of different rhythms and their musical contexts and work on different types of fills and 'hits'. Depending on the students inclination, this can be anything from Pop, Rock, Funk, Latin to Jazz.
- Technique: We will work on posture, grip, a few sticking exercises (such as the rudiments) and different techniques for using your feet.
- Some theory: While this is not essential, I usually encourage my students to learn the fundamentals of musical (drum set) notation. Moreover, we normally try to analyze song structures and talk about some of the fundamentals of song writing/accompanying.

About myself: I am a jazz drummer, teacher and composer, originally from Freiburg, Germany.

I hold a five-year dimploma in Jazz performance and composition from the IMEP in Paris (former American School of Modern Music) as well as a BA in Music from SOAS, University of London. Over the past years, I have performed extensively with a variety of ensembles in France, England, India, Mexico, Germany and Romania recently with projects/artists such as the Güapos Locos, Sanjay Divecha Quartet, Corps et Des Accords Dance Company, Tipazband, Space Theatre Ensemble and Good as Gold among others and have several years of teaching experience in variety of different contexts most recently as musician-in-residence at the prestigious Mahindra College UWC in India.

Classes can be held at the students home, at my home in Shoreditch, or any music studio at a location convenient to the student.
