Improvisation for bass and electric guitar
Composition/ Songwriting
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

Playing and studying music has been a continual hobby since the age of nine. At first with the classical guitar, but changing to the electric guitar after a few years to study improvisation, later playing in a succession of local bands. By my mid-late twenties I was concentrating on the acoustic guitar in the fingerpicking style, playing solo spots in folk clubs. I recorded a CD for a Cambridge label “MR Production” in 1999 receiving favourable reviews from many music magazines including “Folk Roots” and have performed on the club stage at both the Cambridge and Ely Folk Festivals as well as local folk clubs. I have completed graded classical guitar exams to grade 8 through the ABRSM. I am a full time guitar teacher.

Lessons are tailored to the student. Pupils are encouraged to have fun, whether studying for grade music exams or learning accompaniment to songs. All ages and abilities are welcome to study in any style. For younger pupils, parents are encouraged to either take part in lessons or wait comfortably in the same or adjoining room.

Classical Guitar: I usually teach to the Associate Board syllabus, but can also accommodate RGT (London College) and Trinity. Aural tests are covered. For those not wishing to take examinations a personalised program will be used. For younger pupils the ABRSM music medals program is recommended.

Acoustic Guitar: The RGT syllabus is used for examinations. For those not wishing to take examinations a personalised program will be used involving either instrumentals or accompaniments to songs.

Electric Guitar: Both the RGT and Rock School syllabus are used. Improvisation including rock and jazz styles can be taught.
