Notes:
I was originally classically trained through the Guildhall School of Music and Drama grade system, and by Ian Peters and Tim Payne at the University of Southampton. I have studied Bulgarian and Macedonian folk music and am specialist in Greek and Turkish clarinet playing style - I received my Masters in performance (focusing on Turkish gypsy music) from the School of Oriental and African Studies in 2010. I have had lessons with Selim Sesler and Serkan Cagri in Istanbul and I recently spent two weeks in Parakalamo (a village in the mountains of Epirus, Greece) learning Ipirotika from Thomas Xaliyiannis. I have advanced music theory knowledge and I am familiar with both the boehm and albert systems of clarinet. I am currently one of the teachers, leaders and directors of the SOAS klezmer ensemble and I have copious performance experience. I have a friendly and relaxed attitude with a teaching emphasis on musicality and playing style. All abilities welcome, please get in touch!
