With over 25 years professional playing and teaching behind me I am able to offer an exemplary standard of tuition in drum kit.
I offer weekly or fortnightly lessons in a well equipped teaching room in Dursley, Gloucs.
I teach people of all ages and standards according to individual needs, so whether you want to do this for fun and learn to play your favourite songs, or whether you want to take your skills to professional standard I can help you.
Exam tuition is available - for the last 15 years Iíve been entering students for the Rock School exams and I've never had a failure.
I teach using well structured lesson plans, keeping careful records of every lesson to ensure progress.
Over the years Iíve developed numerous teaching strategies to help my students.
I give great attention to detail, for example ensuring that students are playing with correct technique.
Drum lessons typically cover the following topics:
Learning to play songs.
Grooves & Styles.
Students are given many practice rhythms and songs to play along with at home.
I can provide these in whatever format suits you - CD, mp3 etc.
I've worked with many established artists including The Eurythmics, Peters and Lee, Danielle Dax, Lyn Paul (The New Seekers), Paula Wilcox, Freddie Starr and Bobby Crush. I've appeared on British TV several times, including The Tube with Jools Holland. With Danielle Dax I toured America and Scotland.
I've taught in many schools in London, Essex and Gloucestershire.
I've also studied extensively with the top teachers in the country - world renowned teacher Bob Armstrong, Rick Finlay (West End musical Blood Brothers), Clifford Jarvis (legendary jazz drummer), Drumtech (now called The Tech School). I also took Latin percussion lessons with master percussionists Robin Jones and Roberta Pla
DJEMBE (African percussion).
Iíve taught djembe since 1995.
Students are shown correct technique, how to get a great sound out of a Djembe, how to construct authentic West African rhythms, improvisation, how African rhythms relate to contemporary music, as well as African bell patterns, dun dun, sang ban and kenkeni grooves.
Students are also provided with custom african percussion ensemble backing tracks to practice with (On CD, mp3 etc).
Iíve been teaching Logic Pro to students since 2004.
Iíve also taught it at SGS college, Bristol.
Iíve used Logic professionally since 2001.
Previous to that I used Cubase for seven years.
I can help you to get started if youíve only just begun, or if you already have some experience I can show you numerous tricks to improve your production skills. In these lessons we cover many areas including recording, mixing and production, programming synths and drum machines, working with Logicís sampler, understanding compression, reverb, delays and other effects, using correct audio formats.
I also have a fair amount of experience using ABLETON LIVE and REASON.
RECORDING AND PRODUCTION
I have over 25 years experience in recording and production. In this course we cover recording vocals, acoustic and electric guitar,
bass guitar, drum kit and percussion as well as recording methods used for piano, brass and orchestral instruments.
We also cover the mixing process in depth, learning how and when to apply effects such as compression, reverb and delay.
Specifically, as part of drumming lessons I can show students how to get the best results when recording drum kit.
Iím quite happy to mix topics in lessons, for example you may be a drummer who also wants to learn how to use Logic Pro.
DRUM KIT TUNING SERVICE
I also offer a drum kit tuning service. You can either bring your kit to me or I can travel to your house.
