As someone in my mid-Seventies, I have had experience in music, i.e. piano, but the clarinet was completely new to me. However, I like a challenge! Catherine is such a lovely person; friendly, encouraging and patient, filling me with enthusiasm and making every lesson enjoyable. Under her tuition, I have progressed so much more than I anticipated when I first commenced lessons.

I have found Catherine's lessons to be always very well prepared and very enjoyable. I feel that I have made good progress under her guidance as she has recognised my weaknesses and given sound advice in helping me to overcome obstacles. Above all, Catherine's lessons are enjoyable as well as being productive.

I started my saxophone lessons earlier this year as a complete beginner. Catherine has been really supportive and very patient, making the lessons fun and easy to understand. I have improved no end and feel more confident in myself. She tailors the lessons specifically to my abilities and I always come away feeling inspired and raring to go.

I contacted Catherine for lessons just before “lockdown”. Having achieved quite well on clarinet in the past, but being self taught on saxophone I wanted to revise some clarinet technique and improve my saxophone playing. As a secondary & primary school teacher of over 30 years experience I know what to expect from a good teacher. Catherine certainly is that. Her lessons are well prepared, good pace and enjoyable. I always finish a lesson enthused to push myself further. Catherine sets realistic but challenging goals. The exercises she gives me to practice are always relevant to pieces we are studying & make you think. Catherine explains techniques clearly. I feel more confident as a player as a result. Her enthusiasm for all music is infectious. I’m so lucky to have found her.

I’ve had lessons with Catherine for a number of years on saxes, flute and clarinet after she bravely took me on as a ‘mature’ very late starter. Throughout Catherine has provided excellent tuition involving an innovative, flexible approach, clear instruction and perceptive diagnosis of problem areas with effective cures suggested. She is always cheerful and positive and I marvel at her patience. We’ve also have lots of fun playing together!

Catherine began teaching me the clarinet following a 15 year break from playing at school where I had successfully completed my ABRSM Grade 5. My first lesson (at 30 years of age) involved an assessment to establish my current level of music theory and ability to play my clarinet. Now my lessons include a mixture of practical and theory as I feel this suits me the best. In January 2016, I started saxophone lessons, having never even touched a saxophone before, I then passed my Grade 5 Alto sax with merit in July 2016. Catherine will tailor lessons to suit the individual and provides a good mix of playing and theory (if wanted) which I feel has improved my musical knowledge overall as well as my playing. I would recommend Catherine whether you want to play for pleasure or more seriously and take exams. She is friendly, encouraging and knowledgeable.

I began playing clarinet late in life and realised that I needed lessons because I could not have learned without them. My good fortune was that I found Catherine, who has not only been incredibly patient with my slow progress but has encouraged me beyond any wish that I could have. She has steadied me when I lost confidence, and welcomed me back after illness prevented me playing. I cannot recommend her more highly. It is because of her ability to engage so ably with me and my musical needs that I am still on a path of learning and enjoyment, and I intend to continue to play the clarinet as well as I am able.

I really enjoy having lessons with Catherine because she has made them fun, exciting and helped me love playing the saxophone! I have loved playing my instrument ever since I have started lessons with her. I would definitely, definitely recommend her if you’re looking for a teacher! Beth (aged 12).

I have really enjoyed learning the clarinet with Catherine. I felt a little nervous before starting my first lesson but Catherine immediately put me at ease and from then on her patience, style of teaching and providing music to learn that I really enjoy playing has made my lessons fun and has put me on the road to achieving my goal of being able to make music with others.

Catherine was recommended to me as a saxophone teacher by a friend, nine months ago. ' She's really good', said my friend. I went along and have enjoyed every lesson I have been to. Catherine asked the sort of music I like to listen to and play and introduces this into our lessons. We do sight reading, duets, my choice of pieces sometimes and some theory as necessary. She takes a pupil from their own starting point and enables progress and understanding in a lively and enjoyable way. She is sensitive to me when I am nervous and her ways of practicing 'difficult bits' are inventive and they work. Whether you are a beginner, a returner or an old hand Catherine can provide just the tuition you need and she tells jokes!
