Notes:

As a teacher I am committed to the motivation and inspiration of all the students I come across, through hard work and a cultivation of a love for and understanding of music I make sure a student’s learning experience is as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. I work thoroughly and aim to balance a commitment to discipline and technique with a lighthearted and positive approach. I have experience teaching students of all ages and standards in many contexts.

My musical background is varied but my main instrument is Cello, having studied at Chetham’s School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music I have been fortunate to learn from many inspirational tutors and have incorporated the wonderful guidance I have received with my own outlook on the learning process to form the basis of my teaching.

I have Grade 8 piano and also studied Jazz piano and double bass with some of the best jazz tutors in the country. Alongside this I learnt composition in Jazz and Classical styles and have had several pieces performed throughout the UK.

I started teaching at aged 14 on summer music courses mostly teaching larger groups. These have included: Early Years Introduction to music (age 5-9), String Groups, Orchestras, Rock Bands, Jazz Bands and Choirs of all ages. I have also been teaching Cello at Kings College London this past year as well as at Musicale in Harpenden. I teach Cello, Piano and Double Bass individually as well as Theory and Composition.

As a performer I have given concerts throughout the UK and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician and have received several prizes throughout my studies. For more information about me as a performer see my Biography.

Above all else I believe in teaching students to teach themselves through the understanding of how to practise and to critically evaluate their playing.
