MA Music degree specialising in songwriting and composition at Leeds College of Music.
2:1 BA (Hons) Music (Popular) Degree at Leeds College of Music.
Beginners to Advanced
my name's Huw.
I am a professional guitar, ukulele, bass, ensemble, songwriting and composition tutor.
A large part of my work is done online via Skype, Zoom or Tutorful, meaning I can teach people all around the world. Feel free to get in touch wherever you are.
In person, I teach privately out of the Chapel in Leeds - a beautiful, converted church and creative hub bringing together artists, musicians and producers from around the city. I also teach within schools and colleges, from helping primary school children learn ukulele to helping degree students with their coursework.
There is a communal space central to the building, complete with sofas, seating and tables for parents to enjoy while they wait.
I have a 100% pass rate for grades and exams. I am fully DBS checked.
My teaching room is supplied with studio monitors, recording equipment, access to Logic Pro X, two amplifiers as well as spare guitars and ukuleles. This makes it an ideal space to teach composition as I am able to help students record and work on ideas they have.
I teach all ages and abilities. One-on-one or group sessions. I also run ensembles, helping students understand the disciplines of playing together. I specialise in rock, pop, indie, folk, funk, blues and all their subgenres. I also teach theory.
The first thing we will establish together is what you want to get out of the lessons.
First and foremost, I aim to ensure my lessons are fun and enjoyable. Music should be an escape, not a stress. However, serious musical ambition requires hard work, determination and focus. If you’re hoping to achieve more than simply acquiring what many say to be a highlight of their week, such as working towards grades or career goals, then the lessons will be more focused and rigorous while remaining fun and enjoyable.
I am also an active, professional musician. Please visit the biography section to learn more about my industry experience.
I wish to use these experiences and skills I have gained to help others realise their full potential and understand the joys that learning an instrument can bring.
