I have been playing the guitar for over 30 years, initially having taught myself to a basic level as a teenager. My formal musical training has come since I retired from the police service in 2002. I obtained my grades on guitar and bass at Northwich School of Music where I then taught both instruments for several years. I obtained a BTEC National Diploma at Mid-Cheshire College where I studied between 2006 and 2008.

I moved from Northwich to Winsford in 2011 and set up 'Avondale Guitar Tuition' which is based at my home in St. Georges Road.

Lessons are always tailored towards individual needs and aspirations, although I do use and recommend the 'Rockschool' syllabus for electric guitar players and the Registry of Guitar Tutors syllabus for acoustic players. I tend to use Nationwide Music Examinations for those who wish to take grades because of the flexibility this offers. However, this isn't for everyone and many of my pupils learn to play purely for their own enjoyment.

My teaching repertoire encompasses many of the varied styles of popular music which exist today. However, I am primarily an electric guitar player and my own style is influenced by players such as Dave Gilmour, Billy Gibbons, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rory Gallagher and Jimi Hendrix.

I use Fender guitars (both Stratocasters and Telecasters) and amplification by Marshall, Backstar and Fender.

I don't currently play in a band. I love teaching and feel blessed to be able to make a living by combining this with my passion for music.

When I'm not teaching I enjoy music composition and recording and, of course, spending time with my family.
