Completed Educare child protection training course. (more)
Keeping Children Safe in Music is the latest in the EduCare's series of distance learning courses on child protection. The training programme uses short films to show a variety of good and bad practice examples, which will be available to watch online. It will help anyone teaching music to children gain a better understanding of their child protection responsibilities, and avoid situations that could lead to accusations of misconduct.

Instrumental lessons can be either just for fun or focused on passing exams - although exams can be fun too, of course! Exam preparation will usually follow the syllabus of the ABRSM.

I usually advise waiting until the age of about ten before starting lessons on the clarinet and saxophone as these instruments are relatively large and heavy. A free-of-charge consultation lesson is advised before committing to regular lessons. By prior negotiation, for a student's very first lesson (and only for the very first lesson) I will provide an instrument for a complete beginner to try out, so that we may accurately assess whether the instrument is going to be manageable.

Making music with other people is absolutely the best part of playing an instrument! All of my students are encouraged to become involved with group music making in addition to their one-to-one lessons, whether that be through their school, local music service, community groups or with friends and family.
