Biography

My first Piano Teaching was at the Richmond School of Music, East Sheen, Surrey, during my Gap Year. During my Music Degree studies at Bristol University I was asked to provide Maternity Leave cover at Red Maids' School, Bristol. During my Postgraduate year at Cambridge, the Music Adviser for Orkney gave a lecture on the Scottish Educational system and the Orkney version of it. During his talk he mentioned that he had a job going. I collared him at the end of the talk, was interviewed the next morning and started work as an Itinerant Teacher of Music in Orkney in August 1979.
Following my marriage to another musician I became the Honorary Local Representative for the ABRSM organising music examinations throughout Orkney.
At the end of 1986, my husband was appointed as a Professor of Music "down south" so we reluctantly left the islands and moved to Dorset.I built up a teaching studio whilst raising my sons and studying for my advanced diploma in Financial Consultancy. I then returned to teaching full time, in turn at Sherborne School for Girls, the Gryphon School, Sherborne, Perrott Hill School [Head of Music], Millfield School and The Park School, Yeovil [consecutively Head of Music, Director of Music and Deputy Head].
Having officially retired we were able to return to our beloved Orkney in 2013 where I was promptly encouraged out of retirement due to a shortage of qualified Music Teachers!
When not at The Reel (an excellent music venue in Kirkwall), I teach at home on my Bechstein Model B Grand Piano.
