Notes:

John’s versatility and musicality as a bassist have led to a huge variety of work from jazz, big bands and pit orchestras to pop and avant-garde. He brings to his teaching the accumulated knowledge of performing with some of the finest musicians in Leeds, Washington DC and now London. Alongside a wealth of practical experience, John has solid classical training and a deep knowledge of music theory, aural skills and harmony.

John's aim is to help students really get inside the music they play, to see what works and what doesn't, and to understand how to progress. Every student is different: for some, a sprinkling of chord theory can lead to a Eureka moment which unlocks their playing; for others, learning how to really hear the music is key. Still others may know exactly what they want to do, but encounter an obstacle in technique they can't seem to get around.

During his career John has approached music from almost every possible angle, and brings that adaptability to his lessons, whether you are an advanced player looking to hone your technique, or a beginner who wants to be able to play along to your favourite songs.
