Firstly, it's probably helpful for you to know that you can come to me, or I can come to you as long as you live within a 10 miles radius of my home. As far as my teaching style is concerned, I try to ensure that lessons are rigorous, but always leavened with a degree of good humour and fun. I do prepare my students for the examinations of the Associated Board and the National College of Music, London, but there is no obligation to work towards examinations. My youngest student was 4 years old and my oldest, who passed his fellowship examination last year, is 73!
I'm an examiner for the National College of Music, and I have played as an accompanist or recitalist in many venues, on both the piano and the organ, including many of the cathedrals of the UK, Europe and North America, but that doesn't mean I'm a high-powered teacher: it just means that I've been incredibly fortunate to have had the kind of teachers who enabled me to do such things. That's why I do what I do now, because I want to try and give my own students a good foundation on which to build.
It seems to work, if what my students say is to believed:

“In six months I have made more progress than I thought possible. The style and pace of your teaching is perfectly suited to my needs which no doubt is down to your skill and ability to assess what is needed in an individual situation.”

“Paul is an accomplished musician and the depth and insight into musical matters make my lessons with him all the more inspirational. I feel more motivated than ever.”

"You are easy to work with, and your outstanding musicianship makes it a pleasure."

“I really enjoyed my organ lesson. I can see that there's something very appealing and compelling about making music almost out of the fabric of the building.”
