My name is Alessandra. I started playing the flute at the age of 10. I have obtained an MA in Flute at the age of 19 from the Conservatory of Music of Cagliari, Italy, and then I studied chamber music, along with flute and piccolo performance, in Florence and Rome (where I have also achieved a BA in Chamber music and MA in Art History). Contemporary music has been central in my interests since the awarding of the Berio Prize, for the best performance of Sequenza I at the Severino Gazzelloni Fellowships competition in Florence in 2002. I play the flute (alto, bass and piccolo) in two renowned Italian contemporary music ensembles: Imago Sonora and Piccola Accademia degli Specchi (of which I am also one of the founders). As a member of the latter, I had the fortune of participating in and playing at some of the major music festivals dedicated to contemporary music across Europe, and I recorded several albums for international labels. I have played in many Italian and European orchestras, including the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Teatro Lirico di Spoleto, and I have been principal and second flute/piccolo in R3O, the orchestra of University Roma Tre in Rome, Italy and second flute in the RNS (Royal Northern Sinfonia) in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I have been teaching flute, piccolo and music theory for over 15 years at public and private schools, delivering private lessons and group classes to pupils of all ages and all levels. I have got the QTS, and I prepare prepare students for the ABRSM examinations and flute Diploma.

I am also StepUP flute tutor at the Sagegateshead in the YMP and Flute teacher and I teach performance GCSE and A-level at the Emmanuel College in Gateshead.

I am a flexible, passionate and friendly teacher. I have the highest commitment to teaching flute and music, shaping my lecturing style on the individual needs and interests of the student(s). With adults, I also focus on the student's personal goals, encouraging and supporting a sustained engagement with the studies and constant progression.

I teach at home.
My lessons may include also music theory, should this be needed.
I can teach in English, Italian, and Spanish.
