Biography

John-Paul Muir is one of New Zealandís foremost young pianists. He has performed in London and throughout the UK, and in Los Angeles, New York and Boston. He has won prizes at several of New Zealandís most important music competitions, had several performances broadcast on Radio NZ Concert, and has featured as a soloist with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, and the Auckland Youth Orchestra. In 2010 John-Paul graduated from the University of Auckland School of Music with a Master of Music (First Class Honours) in Performance Piano, where he studied with Rae de Lisle & Stephen de Pledge.

He is now living in London, and has recently graduated with distinction from the Guildhall Artist Masters Programme under Senior Professor Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He has performed in public masterclasses with Dominique Merlet, Leslie Howard, Alon Goldstein, and Bernard DíAscoli. In 2011 he was selected to participate in the Oxford Philomusica International Piano Festival & Summer Academy, and was an official pianist for the New Zealand exhibit at the Venice Biennale. John-Paul was featured in a week-long series of concerts as part of the Royal Over-Seas League ARTS programme at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011 where he performed a solo jazz recital in addition to the usual classical concerts. John-Paul was also recently honoured to perform for Her Majesty the Queen, during the the 80th anniversary celebrations of Goodenough College, where he is a member.
