Currently in his first year study for a Master in Music degree in Birmingham Conservatoire, Ken Min Chyh Lim is the first prize winner of the Birmingham Conservatoire Piano Prize in 2017, the first prize winner of the Delia Hall Accompaniment Prize in 2016 and the second prize winner of the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Prize in 2015. He took up piano lessons at the age of 6 and has obtained the LTCL performance diploma in 2010. Ken now studies piano with John Thwaites and Anthony Hewitt, composition with Fumiko Miyachi, in addition to masterclasses with Katherine Stott, Orit Wolf, Andrew West, Jerome Reed, Leslie Howard and Vasily Lobanov. As a concerto soloist he has played with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra led by Michael Lloyd and the Strafford Sinfonia conducted by Jack Lovell. In 2012, Ken received the Patronís Award for Piano Solo above 18 in the Malaysian Youth Orchestral Foundationís music festival. In the same year, he joined the ASEAN Contemporary Music Ensemble conducted by Peter Veale to collaborate with musicians from Germany, Singapore and Thailand as they premier new music composed by young composers.
