PIANO: if you are thinking of learning the piano the best time to begin is between the ages of 5 and 7. I love teaching children and starting early can be a lot of fun! - we use lots of toys and make the learning very enjoyable - please look at my photos and videos. But there absolutely isn’t an upper age limit to start playing – all you need is a desire to learn, sprinkled with a touch of dedication: ‘often & little’ is the motto for best results. I am often amazed how much can be achieved by an adult student, so if you always regretted not learning to play perhaps now is your time! You will, of course, need regular access to an instrument - so having a piano at home is essential.

SINGING: you can start singing at any age. I currently have ambitious young students preparing for exams as well as adults who want to sing just for fun, better health or relaxation. Some of my pupils also perform in local theatre groups and I help them work on any songs they may need to prepare for their shows. In lessons we do lots of aural training, pay attention to correct posture, breathing and diction. Practicing singing can also improve your speaking voice (including helping with speech problems – i.e. stammer) and generally gives a tremendous boost to confidence so taking up singing is hugely beneficial even if you already play an instrument or would never consider singing a career. My students won trophies in Grantham Music Festival and Colsterworth Festival of Performing Arts.

THEORY: I usually cover theory during piano/ singing lessons. I have an excellent pass rate for Grade 5 ABRSM exams with all my students achieving merits and disctinctions. I have also worked with dyslexic students who may find the theory a little more difficult.

EXAMS: although not everyone may wish to take exams I believe that most pupils will find that working towards a goal is beneficial. Importantly, passed exams can grant UCAS points, which may come very handy for students wishing to embark on university education, irrespective of their future choice of subject. I can prepare students for exams starting from prep tests up to grade 8.

CONCERTS: I organise concerts, masterclasses and piano competitions for my students, which are fun while at the same time help to build up stage confidence. We have been very lucky to be able to use a fantastic venue - The Christchurch in Grantham where ABRSM exams also take place - so when exam time comes the students are already familiar with the instrument and the venue.

LESSONS: All lessons take place in my studio at home. I have a wonderful Yamaha baby grand piano, which has a lovely sound but unfortunately it is not portable so I do not travel out to give lessons. Lessons start from 30 minutes. Parents (especially parents of younger children) are most welcome to stay during the lessons.
