Instruments: Trumpet, Cornet, Flugelhorn, Piano, Guitar and music theory
Genre/Style(s): Anything and Everything
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I began playing the trumpet at the age of 9. Before I left primary school, I
had passed my Grade 5 ABRSM exam with distinction. When I started secondary
school, I began studying with Rhys Owens, principal trumpet player of the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. More exam success followed,
achieving Grade 8 with distinction despite being strapped up with a sprained
wrist following a sporting accident!

While living in Sefton, I played in many ensembles and high scorer’s
concerts in venues all over Merseyside. I was principal trumpet in Sefton Wind
Orchestra and one highlight out of many successful concerts was the World
Premiere of a work commissioned from Philip Wilby in Liverpool’s Anglican
Cathedral. I was also principal trumpet player in Sefton Jazz Orchestra and for two years running they won a place in the final of Music for Youth in London. Further orchestral work included joining Merseyside Youth Orchestra on principal trumpet, playing to packed audiences at the ‘Phil’.

When I was 14, I joined the Junior School at the RNCM. During my four years there, I worked with many renowned musicians and played in concerts all over the north of England.

While in the sixth form, I also joined the National Youth Brass Band and
attended six residential courses in venues all over the country under such
eminent conductors as Bramwell Tovey and Elgar Howarth.

Since joining RWCMD in 2008 on a scholarship, I have played in several ensembles
within the college including Brass ensemble, Brass band, Brass band rep, trumpet class, trumpet trio, chamber orchestra, wind orchestra, symphony orchestra and two jazz bands, under the tuition of Andy Everton. Highlights have included playing with the Brass ensemble at Buckingham Palace at a Royal Gala to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the RWCMD and the opening of the Welsh Assembly by the Queen. I have also taken part in several concerts outside of college, including Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man and shows like Bugsy Malone and The Wizard of Oz as well as recently taking part in
Tiddly Proms a series of children’s concerts and the TV show Darius. I was
also invited to be a tutor at a residential course in Cornwall for the Halle Youth Orchestra.

I have recently performed with Cory Brass Band and the BBC Now Big Band, and have been to Luxembourg to take part in Brass Band concerts. Last Christmas, I toured the North West province of China with the London Amadeus Orchestra

I have now graduated from RWCMD with 1st honors degree in music performing aswell as obtaining my diploma for teaching from the ABRSM.
