My main instrument is the clarinet, which I teach up to ABRSM/Trinity Grade 8. I teach alto sax and flute up to grade 5. I am interested to know your motivations for wanting to learn an instrument, including whether you want to take grades or just learn for fun! I have had 3 years' experience working for Hampshire Music Service and have an up to date DBS check. I usually travel to students' houses for lessons so you can learn in the comfort of your own home. I am able to travel to most places in Hampshire.

A bit about me:

I am classically trained and have played 1st clarinet with a number of ensembles over the years, including Ebony clarinet choir, Taunton Concert Band and Southampton University Concert Band. My other big passions are folk and klezmer music, elements of which I apply to my teaching, such as learning music by ear and improvising on scales and modes. I also incorporate elements of music theory into lessons, such as reading music and learning about intervals.

In 2010, I co-founded the Southampton University Folk Music Society and was President in its first year. I led workshops and rehearsals alongside other members of the committee, to prepare for performances at ceilidhs and concerts. After only 1 year, the society won an EVA (Excellence in Volunteering Award). Today, the society continues to grow and is going from strength to strength.

I regularly perform with my own band - Southampton based folk band, Threepenny Bit. Initially formed as a trio in 2010, we now have 8 members and were nominated for the FATEA Awards' Instrumental Album of the Year in 2013. We played at a number of prestigious folk festivals from 2015, including Cambridge Folk Festival and Sidmouth Folk Festival. 2017 saw us start work on our fourth album and we have some exciting venues booked for 2018-19!
