My name is Steve Martin, and I am a fully qualified Teacher of Music with 10 years teaching experience at the secondary level, 7 of which were spent as Head of Music at a very large Cornish school.

Having taken the decision to switch from classroom to private teaching, I am now looking to take on a number of students whom I wish to help to achieve their musical goals. I have a very proud record of GCSE and A Level grades, and anybody who wishes to seek a reference to confirm this is welcomed to contact my previous school (details provided upon request).

In terms of the specific tuition services that I offer, I see my main roles as follows: firstly, providing extra support to GCSE and A-Level Music students in comprehension of key theoretical components, composition for exams (including Bach Chorales), and analysis of set works; secondly, helping students who wish to access higher practical grades on their instrument to pass their Grade 5 Theory exam. For those students for whom Music is the most important subject in their lives, I will help you to achieve the top grades through a personalised study programme that will work alongside your classroom tuition at school or college.

Although I am very comfortable teaching all aspects of Music, I consider my specialism to be composition - an area which many students struggle with. In addition to a history of excellent grades in traditional composition for exam, I feel that I am equally qualified in teaching pop music composition, having won the Indie Category of the UK Songwriting Contest in December 2017.

In terms of my teaching style, students have described me as very approachable, supportive, and organised. I do pride myself on teaching high quality lessons with the same degree of individual student knowledge (in terms of tracking, development areas, strengths, etc) that you would expect to see in a very good secondary school.

I teach from home in a dedicated teaching room/ music studio, and have access to the latest Sibelius notation software for teaching traditional composition (for exam). I offer a free 30-minute consultation lesson for any new student. This allows me to ascertain exactly where the individual student is on their learning journey, where they want to go, and finally what is required for them to progress towards their musical goal.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to having the opportunity to discuss my tuition services with you in more detail.
