I specialise in teaching music technology, production and performance using software and hardware applications. Commonly known as Music Production.

I have been teaching privately on a one-to-one basis since 2013. Prior to that I spent 6 years working in non-formal education developing my skills as a music leader in schools, youth centres and on a number of major arts projects. This includes work with the leading youth music charity Readipop. Delivering AQA and Arts Award accredited learning for Bucks County Council/Soundstudio. I have also worked with the award winning Point Blank Music School in London.

Specialising in Ableton Live and Native Instruments Maschine, I teach all aspects of music production on each platform from beginner level to advanced. This includes recording and mixing as well as basic synthesis and sound design. I also provide training on lots of other plugins inc. Omnisphere, Kontakt, Reaktor, Serum, Massive and many more.

Learning the craft of music production differs greatly from learning to play a single instrument. There are many skills and techniques involved using a broad range of software and hardware applications. For the beginner this can be pretty overwhelming. The desired outcome however is usually always the same –
to create or record a piece of music.

I aim to simplify and de-mystify the process of making music by breaking it down into subject areas and Modules. Modules range from basic skills through to intermediate and advanced techniques. Each Module is designed to cover a key aspect of the music production process using a particular platform such as Ableton Live.

Lessons are 1 hour long and are led by an initial discussion with each student to find out their interests and any goals they would like to work towards.
Each subject area is taught in Modules. Modules can be mixed and matched, enabling lessons to be tailored to each student based on their existing knowledge of music tech, experience and musicianship.

Basic skills modules such as ‘Creating Drum Loops’ and ‘Working with Audio’ in Ableton are ideal for beginners looking to get started with making music.
Modules like ‘Advanced Mixing’ have been designed for students that have already created a series of projects, and looking to finish their tracks and get them mastered.

Modules are taught over 1-3 lessons depending on complexity, and student ability. Most modules include tasks to be completed at home. Regular assessment is made of each student’s progress based on their application of knowledge, skills and technique.
