Notes:

My goal as a teacher is to teach others that learning an instrument is first and foremost something just for them. As such, these lessons are about instilling students with a passion for music and to teach them that the best way to enjoy guitar is to love music and to understand what they want to get out of it.

The guitar is a very well advertised instrument and as such there are lots of people that give it a go and then give up, leaving it to collect dust on the side. Ultimately, like anything, playing an instrument is just one way to occupy your time and not everyone has the time to take it as seriously as they'd perhaps like. These lessons aren't about putting pressure on a student to learn a particular song or piece of theory, as useful as these can be. Instead, it's about having a conversation where the lessons match exactly the what the student wants that week and making it easy for them to stick with the instrument so that they learn to teach themselves. Essentially, the end goal is simply to get to a point where you're playing every week, not because you feel you have to but because you just want to play.

My strength as a teacher comes from my ability to communicate well with people. I volunteer part-time with young kids to teach maths and English and work full-time as a software engineer.

The lessons are based around different learning styles which are designed to fit the needs of individual students, with different musical goals.

The styles are as follows:
- Song Based/Imitation Learning
- Theory Based Learning
- Teacher Led
- Student Led

There is a strong focus on fun and a forced notion that instruments should be considered as a thing of enjoyment rather than chore.

So many friends of mine studied classically from as young as 7, went through all the trials and tribulations of getting to grade 8 or even diploma level at their respective instrument and then never play as an adult. The lesson here isn't that classical music doesn't produce good musicians but rather that it is important to continually make the instrument and the music relevant to the student so that they enjoy what they do.
