My first memory of making music is of playing piano duets with my Father and having such fun even though we made a terrible noise. This 'fun' is fundamental to my teaching philosophy so that each student, whatever their age, enjoys the learning experience so much that they want to work hard and progress.

I was fortunate to go to a dedicated professional performing arts school for 8 years followed by 7 years of under-graduate and post-graduate music training which I thoroughly enjoyed. That was some years ago as I have now been teaching for approximately 30 years as an instrumental, classroom teacher and privately at home.

Currently, I teach from home where the family dogs and cat enjoy meeting and listening to the lessons! When young musicians start I encourage parents/guardians to listen to the lessons (this is not possible at the moment though they are welcome to stand outside in the garden, if they wish, as a way of involving more of the family). And guess what? I have even taught some of those parents, too.

Finally, learning about and making music encourages general confidence and the understanding of being responsible for working between lessons in students if one wishes to progress. These skills will remain with the students for life.
