Biography

Richard Hall is a freelance accompanist and organist. Richard read music at King’s College London, graduating with First Class Honours in 2013. During his time at KCL, he held the position of Organ Scholar, accompanying the university’s internationally acclaimed Chapel Choir for services, concerts, BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and commercial recordings. Richard studied the organ with Gerard Brooks at the Royal Academy of Music and currently studies the piano with Richard Shaw.

As a pianist, Richard has accompanied numerous instrumental and vocal recitals. He recently played in a recording with The Opera Group in a collaborative project with British universities, the Technology Strategy Board and The Opera Group. In November 2013, Richard performed in the world premiere of a new piece commissioned by The Bach Society. Richard has accompanied masterclasses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, as well as vocal masterclasses given by Andrew Watts and Susanna Stranders. He has participated in courses on piano accompaniment given by Anthony Saunders, Michael Pilkington and Elizabeth Burgess.

Richard is passionate about teaching and has over seven years’ experience of teaching and coaching pupils who collectively encompass a broad range of abilities and ages. He has taught in the Music Department of Hill House International School and also teaches privately.

In January 2014, Richard took up the position of Director of Music at Christ Church, West Wimbledon and maintains a busy career as an accompanist.
