Miss Laura Custodio Sabas

Catalan violinist Laura Custodio Sabas first moved to London at the age of 16 to attend the prestigious Purcell School for Young Musicians, under a Department for Education Music and Dance Scheme scholarship. She continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed her Bachelor and Master of Music, under the tutelage of Igor Petrushevski, Nicholas Miller and Levon Chilingirian, and received masterclasses from Maxim Vengerov.

Since then, Laura's main focus has been chamber music and orchestral playing. In 2020, she was awarded the 1st Prize in the Royal Over-Seas League Competition String Ensemble Section with the Fitzroy Piano Quartet. She has also been a member of the Fitzroy String Quartet for the last 4 years, with whom she has performed across the world in festivals in the UK, Germany, Poland, France, Spain, and South Africa. The Fitzroy String Quartet gave their debut recital in Wigmore Hall in 2018 and have won many awards and prizes such as the Beethoven Prize in the 2nd International Beethoven Chamber Music Competition (2017) and the Tunnell Trust Award (2018).

As an orchestral musician, she has been a collaborator with renowned orchestras such as Mahler Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Glyndebourne Opera Orchestra, Orquesta de Cadaques, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Pacific Music Festival Orchestra.

Having studied chamber music with eminent figures such as Oliver Wille, Levon Chilingirian, Christoph Richter, Krzystof Chorzelski and Jonathan Brown, Laura is passionate about teaching. She has worked with many young chamber groups during the Fitzroy String Quartet’s Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music (2016-2017) and as Associate Ensemble at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (since 2016), and has coached chamber music at the Odeion School of Music in South Africa (2017) and Dartington Music Summer Festival (2019).
