Online Lessons : due to the pandemic this year I have been taking some online lessons through Skype, Zoom and FaceTime. If you'd be interested in remote learning then please do get in touch.

I currently teach at my home in Thornton, Bradford for students of all ages and abilities from children to adults. I teach the ABRSM syllabus and the Jazz ABRSM counterpart, plus I also cover the Trinity syllabus too.

Up until June 2018, I had been teaching for the past 5 years in schools across Kent, London and the South East, and had great success in guiding pupils to achieving grades and developing their music skills. Several private pupils had also benefitted from my tuition and they had equally achieved their grades and musical ambitions. Teaching brass and music is a passion of mine. Nothing gives me more pride than seeing a student progress and achieve their musical goals.

I am a very open minded teacher with the ability to adapt my teaching method to different pupils and the different needs that occur. For most brass players I like to cover the technical side of things and I especially like to focus on embouchure building practices particularly with trumpeters.

Usually the first few lessons start by asking the student what they would like to achieve from their sessions and what their ultimate goal is. For instance, does the student wish to do graded exams or do they simply want to improve their overall playing? My first lesson is usually 45-60 mins long to see where the student's playing is at and to discuss what the best course of action to take is.

In an average lesson I like to include all the disciplines of playing a brass instrument which will include technique, scales, aural awareness, arpeggios, sight-reading and studying a chosen piece. If the student is studying for a grade then we'll be going through the set pieces, scales, aural awareness and sight reading for the exam. However, depending on whether we are aiming to do classical or jazz, I do often like to end lessons with some duets or hymn tunes which round things off nicely.

Aural perception is a key area of study that I like to spend time on as well, so there will be plenty of 'playing by ear' involved particularly for the jazz students.

If I am to visit a student at their home I will only do minimum 45 - 60 mins lessons at full price and mileage expenses may be added depending on distance.
